Hand carved in Indonesia from a design by Aurelio Voltaire, this item is a true one-of-a-kind collector’s piece. Measuring approximately 12 inches across, no two are exactly alike and each has its own distinct personality. Local artisans use centuries-old techniques to carve Voltaire’s unique vision out of solid mahogany while injecting plenty of the local aesthetic. The Javanese bat was created in Indonesia during one of Voltaire’s stays there where he says, “I was surrounded by flying foxes on a nightly bases. They are my favorite animals so it was absolutely glorious. I’m also madly in love with Balinese and Javanese music and art. I saw an opportunity to combine two things that I love while being able to support the local economy and specifically artisans whose traditions and livelihoods are being threatened by westernization and rampant tourism.”
These hand-carved mahogany bats are approximately 12" x 11" and no two are exactly alike.
